Description: The thesaurus was developed by the RCHME Data Standards Unit (now part of English Heritage) from a flat list of terms produced as part of a pilot programme to computerise the Dept. of the Environment Lists of Buildings of Special or Historic Interest. During the ensuing full project a thesaurus structure was adopted to provide additional retrieval functionality. The thesaurus contains only those terms relevant to English listed buildings. Other regional terms may be added if demand requires.
